Android – Working with Notifications

One of the greatest strengths of the Android platform is its notification scheme. Rather than an intrusive pop-up, all notifications are stored in the status bar at the top of the phone.

Each application has its own icon as well so you can distinguish which notifications are vying for your attention. Notifications can be dealt with individually or dismissed entirely.

As you receive notifications on your Android device, you will begin to see them stored in the top status bar. Applications with multiple notifications will have a numerical value next to them.

To view your notifications, take a finger and swipe downward from the top status bar towards the bottom of the phone. You will see a “drawer” like effect as the window slides down.

Once the drawer completely covers the screen you will see all the notifications currently available. Tap on a notification to launch the app associated with it.

Some Android skins include a “fast-app switcher” in the notification panel as well. Swiping to the left or right will reveal all recently used applications.

If you choose to dismiss all the notifications found in the drawer, just tap the Clearbutton in the upper right-hand corner of the window.
