How To Stop Websites From Tracking Your Location in IE 9 & Firefox 4

If your concerned about privacy and the way websites and advertisers track your location, there is a setting in IE9 that you can set to stop the tracking. Here we’ll show you how to enable that feature in IE 9.

The feature is called Do Not Track User Preference and it simply transmits a special information with every page you go to, telling the site that you don’t want to be tracked.

1. Launch IE 9 and hit the ALT key to bring up the . Click on Tools then Internet Options.

2. Alternately you can right-click an empty area to the right of a tab and click on Menu Bar to bring it up permanently.

3. When the Internet Options window comes up, click on the Privacy tab. Under Location, check the box next to Never allow websites to request your physical location.

4. If you’ve been using IE 9 without knowing about this setting – click on Clear Sites to eliminate them from tracking you. When you’re done click OK.

Enable Do Not Track in Firefox

1. The same type of feature is available in Firefox 4 RC 1 as well. Open Firefox, click on the Firefox dropdown menu and click on Options.

2. In the Options window click on Advanced then the General tab. Under Browsing check the box next to Tell web sites I do not want to be tracked then click OK.

That is all there is to it. If you are concerned about your privacy and don’t want advertisers and other websites tracking your location. If you use IE 9 or Firefox 4, make sure to enable these options.
